A big day

My one-year-old

I could not let the day go past without saying something to my baby boy…

Emmet, this past year, you have brought so much joy and warmth to our lives. You have filled my heart with more love than I knew was possible. Our future together is boundless, I look forward to every moment with you and I cherish every moment that has passed. I love you, Lovebug.

Emmet, hand me that block.

David read an article that says by one year, Emmet should be able to hand a block over when we say “Emmet, hand me that block!” So…the clock is ticking. I have to say, I think he is close. Last night, I was drinking a beer, and Emmet grabbed the neck and put the top of the bottle in his mouth. After a few moments of salivating into my beer, I said, “Emmet, can I have some?” and the boy took the bottle out of his mouth and pushed the lip of the bottle into my mouth and tilted it up. What a smart boy! We’re definitely close.

On a separate note, I fit into my skinny jeans today. They were in the give away pile and I thought, maybe to just give it one more try. I feel attractive today for the first time in a long time. Yay.

Nap time

Naptime

Emmet has been fighting nap time at school lately. His teachers say that he likes to stand in his crib and talk to the other kids…only falling asleep when he is beyond exhausted and often in a pose like the one above. Cutie.

Hey buddy, how do you get this car, out of 2nd gear?

3 long weeks have passed since my last post, and it has been 3 long weeks of mucus, fevers, vomit and antibiotics. It all began with that silly little bout of pink eye in the boy, the infection that came and went in 3 days, but left in its wake some of the most exhausting days of our lives so far. Poor Em was out of school for a week and a half. David and I juggled our work schedules to stay home with a very unhappy and miserable boy. By the end of the first week, both David and I could feel a tickle in our throats. The weekend took a turn for the worst when the fever hit us and a new ear infection found its way into Emmet’s head. David and I took one hour shifts of baby caring while the other slept. I have always missed living closer to family, but never as much as I did on that one Saturday.

Emmet was finally well enough to go to school by the middle of the second week but he still was not eating well and seemed not to be his normal self. I went into work for one day, (just enough time to infect some of my co-workers,) and then ended up taking the rest of the week off to recuperate. That Friday Emmet came home early because he had thrown up his bottle. We took him to the doctor again to find out that the antibiotics for the ear infection were not working and that he had a second ear infection, and the mucus from the infections was causing him to not keep anything in his belly. David and I were so exhausted and frustrated, we had thought that surely by the weekend, our little family would be on the mend.

So Emmet began a new 10-day antibiotic which seemed to disagree with his system. Every poop turned into a blow-out and we had to send him to school with two extra outfits every day. His poor behind was rubbed raw by all of the wiping making changing him even more challenging and ear-splitting. Luckily, we caught on fast and made things a little better with lots of bananas, applesauce, yogurt and warm wet wash cloths. He took his last dose last night and we’re hoping that’s all that was needed.

Now we are on week number four and David and I both have a lingering cough that likes to keep us up at night. I am hopeful that by this weekend, we’ll all be back to 100% and ready to start preparing for a very special birthday!

Thanks for letting me vent!
